"Impotent" platelets in albinos with prolonged bleeding times.
Functional, biochemical, and morphologic platelet abnormalities are reported in four children with the syndrome of albinism, mild bleeding tendency, prolonged bleeding time, and normal platelet count. In these children, primary platelet aggregation with adenosine diphosphate occurred normally, but secondary aggregation was impaired. Collagen and norepinephrine produced almost no platelet aggreg...
متن کاملAspirin, platelets, and bleeding.
RECENT findings regarding the effect of acetylsalicylic acid on platelet function provide an interesting example of how astute clinical observation can lead to the discovery of basic physiologic and pathologic mechanisms. For many years Dr. Armand Quick had suspected that the ingestion of aspirin by hemophiliacs exaggerated their bleeding di-athesis. We were interested to find that some of the ...

A new study presented by Goerge and colleagues in this issue of Blood demonstrates that platelets preserve vascular integrity in inflamed tissue independently of classic adhesion mechanisms.
متن کاملDDAVP infusion in five patients with type Ia glycogen storage disease and associated correction of prolonged bleeding times.
Five patients with glycogen storage disease type I (GSD-I) were evaluated for a bleeding diathesis and subsequently were given an infusion of 1-deamino-8-D-arginine vasopressin (DDAVP). Although platelet counts were normal or slightly elevated, the baseline template bleeding times were prolonged in four of the patients. Prothrombin times and activated partial thromboplastin times were normal, w...
